Translated Communication

Full View Translated Communication

Translated Communication (2017) encompassed the work and research of my 3-months of study at Tainan National University of the Arts. While living in the countryside of the Guantian District, I found that the immediacy of the language barrier could be addressed with translation apps, while navigating the challenges of communicating across time zones required more thoughtful engagement. I would wake early in the morning to call friends who were driving home from work at the end of their day; As they were breathing out from the day I was beginning to breathe in.

This was an opportunity to better understand the ways in which I communicate through circumstance, state of mind, and even time of day. This body of work questioned forms of communication and articulation through visual studies in a variety of media. Component elements recurring throughout the exhibition created a sense of discovery in the realization of patterns and repetition within the installation space.

As was true in the exhibition, the works are presented here without titles specific to any grouping of objects.
